`February 23rd, 2013 - Dereck Ramirez and Ramirez Motorsports opened their 2013 season over the weekend at Royal Purple Raceway (Baytown, Texas) with the 4th Annual USMTS Texas Spring Nationals, but it would prove to be a rough experience for the team.

With Thursday night's opener falling victim to rain the program officially got underway on Friday night with a $5,000-to-win event for the USMTS tour as 77 competitors filled the pit area. A very rough track greeted the competitors and Ramirez failed to race into the feature via preliminary action as his night came to an early end.

Saturday saw the team taking part in a $6,000-to-win event as they hoped for better luck. With 69 racers in the pits Dereck started his night with an eighth to fourth run in his heat race, which left him just short of locking into the feature. As a result, he was forced to run a b-main, where he finished third to earn the twenty-third startings for the finale. Unfortunately early in the feature bad luck would again plague the team as Dereck retired to a twenty-eighth place finish.
