January 18th, 2014 - The 2nd Annual Winter Extreme resumed at Tucson International Raceway (Tucson, Arizona) on Friday night as Dereck hoped for better luck. With 40 entries on hand the night started with Ramirez advancing from the 5th starting spot to a 2nd place finish, which locked him into the 4th starting spot for the finale. Early in the 20 lapper Ramirez raced to as high as the 3rd spot before altercation just before the halfway mark sent him into the wall, resulting in body damage and a flat tire as he was forced to retire from the event.

Saturday evening found another event being contested at Tucson International Raceway with 40 entries again in action in the CDM Open Wheel Modified sanctioned event. Ramirez started his night by charging to a 2nd place finish in his heat race to lock into the 4th starting spot for the 20 lap feature. 1January 15th, 2014 - Dereck opened his 2014 campaign on Saturday night at Tucson International Raceway (Tucson, Arizona) with the opening round of the 2nd Annual Winter Extreme. Thirty-eight entries entered the Championship Dirt Motorsports sanctioned event, and via the pill draw he started 8th in his heat race. He went on to advance to a 5th place finish, which locked him into the 16th starting spot for the 20 lap, $1,000-to-win feature. He went on to advance a few spots early in the event before ultimately retiring late in the race with an ill-handling car.

Sunday night found 37 entries returning for action, and Dereck started his night by winning his heat race to earn the outside-front-row starting spot for the 20 lap feature. He ran in the 2nd spot to Stormy Scott for much of the event before slipping to a 3rd place finish behind race winner, Scott, and Jake O'Neil.

On Wednesday racing resumed at the 3/8 mile oval, and bad luck would bite Dereck throughout the night as he failed to transfer to the feature via heat race action. In the b-main he was running in a transfer spot to the feature, when bad luck struck again when his hood came loose, blocking his view, and ultimately forcing him to retire from the race, which ended his night early.
