1November 8th, 2014 - Dereck Ramirez ended his 2014 campaign over the weekend with a trip to Ark-La-Tex Speedway (Vivian, Louisiana) for the 8th Annual Winter Nationals.

The United States Modified Touring Series (USMTS) sanctioned the three-day affair, which kicked off on Thursday evening with a $2,000-to-win program. In heat race action Ramirez advanced from his seventh starting spot to finish third, earning him the eleventh starting position for the 30 lap feature. Dereck went on to register a solid tenth place finish in the final rundown.

Friday night's program boosted a $3,000 top prize for competitors, as a stout field of seventy-two Open Wheel Modifieds converged on the 3/8 mile oval. An impressive eighth to third run in his heat race would lock Dereck into the eleventh starting spot for the main event. Throughout the course of the 40 lap feature Ramirez battled around mid-pack for much of the race before ultimately settling to a sixteenth place finish.

The weekend drew to a close with the $4,000-to-win finale for the 8th Annual Winter Nationals on Saturday evening. With seventy entries registered for battle, an eighth place finish in heat race action left Dereck short of locking into the feature and forced him to run a b-main. However, an eleventh to fourth run in the b-main earned him the 23rd starting spot for the 50 lap finale. Despite starting near the back of the pack, Ramirez advanced eight spot to a fifteenth place finish at the checkered flag.
