1October 23rd, 2016 - Competing in the 17th Annual S&S Fishing & Rental/Barnett Harley-Davidson United States Racing Association (USRA) Fall Nationals presented by G3 Fitness and MSD, Dereck Ramirez visited Southern New Mexico Speedway (Las Cruces, New Mexico) on Friday night for the three-day weekend. With 56 cars signed in, Ramirez transferred into the B-Main after placing 7th in his heat. Charging to a consolation win, Dereck earned the 15th-starting position for the opening night preliminary feature. Moving up seven spots, Dereck Ramirez reeled in an 8th place finish.

On Saturday night for another preliminary A-Main, Ramirez started the night off with a heat race victory locking his spot into the show. Coming from the 7th-starting spot, Dereck landed a runner-up finish behind Rodney Sanders with Terry Phillips, Zane DeVilbiss, and Ryan Gaylord coming in 5th.

For the final night of the USRA Fall Nationals, Ramirez had already locked his spot into the $12,200-to-win main event with his solid performances the previous two night's. Rolling off 4th, Dereck worked his way up to 2nd to challenge race-leader Ryan Gustin for the top spot early in the A-Main. Holding on to a Top 5 finish when the checkers flew, Dereck Ramirez notched a 5th place spot behind Gustin, Stormy Scott, Rodney Sanders, and Ricky Thornton Jr.
