Ramirez continues USMTS campaign at Cedar Lake Speedway
Dereck Ramirez followed the Summit United States Modified Touring Series (USMTS) to Cedar Lake Speedway (New Richmond, Wisconsin) for this weekend’s three-day USMTS Masters. His No. 4R was among 45 cars entered on Thursday and Friday, and 46 on Saturday.
The 2021 series champion and defending Masters winner kicked off the 24th annual event on Thursday with a ninth-place finish in his heat and a sixth-place result in his B-Main. Those results necessitated the use of a provisional for Ramirez to make the night's 40-lap, $3,000-to-win A-Main on the 3/8-mile clay oval. He charged forward 14 positions from his 25th-place starting position in the feature, finishing just outside the top 10 in the 11th spot.
After finishing seventh in both his heat and B-Main on Friday, Ramirez required another provisional to make the evening’s 45-lap, $5,000-to-win main event. He started 25th and advanced one position to turn in a 24th-place result after being unable to complete all the laps.
Saturday’s finale, paying $11,000 to win, started strong for Ramirez as he set overall quick time with a 15.081-second lap. After a fifth-place finish in his heat race, Ramirez started 13th and ran as high as eighth before finishing 15th in the 50-lap A-Main.
Ramirez is now eighth in the Summit USMTS National point standings, just two markers out of seventh.
