Ramirez races through Sooner State with USMTS
Dereck Ramirez competed in a pair of $5,000-to-win shows in his home state over the weekend as the Summit USMTS National Championship schedule rolled through Oklahoma.
The action kicked off on Friday when 40 USMTS Modified teams descended on the 1/3-mile Arrowhead Speedway in Colcord for the Spring Salute. Ramirez finished seventh in his heat race aboard his S&S Fishing and Rental Inc. No. 4R, then drove to a sixth-place result in his B-Main. Although he earned a provisional starting spot in the 40-lap feature, he elected to forego the position and not risk any damage on a demanding track.
On Saturday, Ramirez was one of 41 Modified entrants at Pocola’s Tri-State Speedway for the ninth annual USMTS Juggernaut. He took fifth in his heat on the 3/8-mile oval and used a runner-up finish in his consolation race to roll off 16th in the main event. Ramirez picked up one spot in the 40-lapper and came home 15th.
After the Sooner State events, Ramirez is ninth in the USMTS standings.
