Ramriez competes in The Big Deal main event at Mississippi Thunder Speedway
A chance at a $100,000 payday was on tap for Dereck Ramirez over the weekend as he took part in the inaugural running of The Big Deal at Mississippi Thunder Speedway in Fountain City, Wisconsin. A total of 145 Modifieds were on hand for the newly formed crown-jewel event.
Qualifying for the One Nation Under Modifieds (ONUM)-sanctioned show took place on Wednesday, with Ramirez qualifying 15th-quickest in his group on the 1/3-mile clay oval. As a result of his overall position, he raced in preliminary action on Thursday. Ramirez won his heat race in his S&S Fishing + Rental Inc. No. 4R Modified, then started 14th in the 30-lap, $5,000 to-win feature. He brought home a 10th-place finish.
On Saturday, Ramirez’s total qualifying points started him in the B-Main in the alphabet soup of races leading up to the finale. Ramirez finished seventh in the “B,” putting him in the $100,001-to-win feature race. He started 23rd in the 100-lapper and scored a 22nd-place result after recording a DNF.
